Gaelic Football 2007 Season

I'm delighted to say that Gaelic football is alive and well and indeed thriving under the careful tutelage of Keith Conefrey. Both junior and senior squads are progressing very well in their respective divisions.

Juniors

In Round 1 St Brigid's beat Mary Queen of Angels by 3-13 to 1-2. This was an excellent opening match, held in Tymon Park. Brigid's proved to be too strong all over the pitch and finished the game with a convincing win. Highlights fo the game were two fantastic long range points scored by Eoin Haverty and an amazing score of 3-6 from James Shiggins.

In Round 2 Brigid's beat Cluain Buiríosa by 4-4 to 2-1, in a game that was spoiled somewhat by very windy conditions. Brigid's did well to be level at half time as we were playing against the wind. We finished the stronger team in second half, playing with the strong wind.

Highlights of the game were some excellent interceptions and passing by Robert Leen and great defending by Sam O'Connor.

Round 3 saw Brigid's thrashing Bishop Galvin's by 6-10 to 1-1. This was a very convincing win in which all our subs got to play. Tremendous defending by Matthew McGrath at full back and good play at mid field form Brian Murphy and David Cullen helped to keep the opposition in check.

Round 4 saw us play Star of the Sea. The score was 6-12 to 5-5 for Brigid's. Our boys played brilliantly against a very good side, who are now top of the league. We were down at half time and found it just impossible to bridge the gap in the second half.

Highlights of the game were excellent goalkeeping by Jason Walsh and both mid fielders, Jack Fagan and Eoin Haverty acquitted themselves well on the day.

Seniors

Round 1 Brigid's 2-6 Terenure 4-6

This was a game that we should have won! Unfortunately we were missing a number of our regular players. WE were down just two points coming to a nail biting finish, but then Terenure managed to get two scores that sealed victory for them.

Highlights were excellent goal keeping by Matthew Hegarty and two fine points by a last minute addition to the team, Jack Quigley.

Round 2 Brigid's 7-8 St Attracta's 0-6

An excellent all round performance in Marley Park, with 8 of our players getting on the score board. Highlights were an outstanding display by Captain Jack McGrath in midfield and an excellent display in defence by Jack Lester

Round 3 Brigid's 2-6 Holy Spirit 3-11

This was a game of two halves, due to a very strong wind. Unfortunately we were down 3-8 to nil at half time. However with the wind at our backs we put in a very gutsy performance in the second half and if we had only 5 more minutes, we could have won the game. Highlights were an excellent game in midfield by Jack McGrath and Tom Curran and good forward play by Luke Fenton and Lima Kennedy.

Round 4 Brigid's 0-5 Scoil Lorcáin 4-10

We did not perform to our potential in this game. WE also came up against a very good side! However we did have a few crumbs of comfort from an otherwise disappointing performance; Tom Curran took some excellent frees and Dylan Hanney showed good potential as a defender.
