SECOND CLASS HARD AT WORK IN THE COMPUTER ROOM

World Maths Day 2009 was on Wed 4th March. It was a world wide event and so it began for us here in St Brigid's on Tuesday at 11.00 ( 4th March began in New Zealand at this time ) and finished on Thursday at 11.00, 48 hours later!

The challenge was to answer as many maths questions as possible during that time and to try and beat last years record of 185,443.085.

Each game was a series one minute quick fire mental maths questions with 4 children from anywhere in the world competing against each other in each game. That doesn't seem too hard

All classes in the school competed in the challenge.

Yes, last years total was easily beaten with a remarkable 455,678,934 maths question answered ( correctly ) in that time.

What a challenge for 2010!

Digital Schools Award

The school was honoured to receive the Digital Schools Award on Friday 27th October. The Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin presented the award. St Brigid's is only one of 28 schools from all round the country to have achieved this status. We are very proud of our teachers and the boys for achieving this honour for the school. The award is held for two years and then has to be reapplied for. There are stringent conditions and criteria to be met, amongst which are the maintenance of a vibrant school website, the use of ICT for teaching and learning and a vision for the future use of ICT.

Here are some photographs of the wonderful occasion.

Presidents Visit

Presidential Visit

February 1st 2001 was a memorable day for our school. Mr. O’Connell invited President McAleese to visit our school and to our delight she accepted the invitation to celebrate the feast of St.Brigid with us. Great preparations were made. The school hall was painted, bunting was hung up all around the school ground, the boys made flags, the choir prepared special music and an exhibition of artwork was displayed. The drama teacher, Paul Cullen, prepared a special play called "St.Brigid's Sword" and the President was particularly thrilled with this production.
The Junior boys made a guard of honour for the President's arrival and on entering the school hall President McAleese got a rousing reception from the boys and guests. The President spoke to the spell bound audience for over twenty minutes and one of the boys made a presentation of a specially commissioned wooden St.Brigid’s Cross entitled "Muire na nGael". Afterwards the President was invited to a reception in the staffroom where she met the teachers, Board of Management and invited guests.

It was a day to remember.
