EXCAVATION IN A BOX

E-mail Print PDF

Fifth class boys worked with trays of sand which had a selection of artefacts hidden in the sand.

The objective of the exercise was to show the boys how an archaeologist discovers information about the past by excavation.

Working as Historians the pupils can develop an understanding of time and chronology as revealed by the process of an archaeological excavation.

They can use the evidence from the excavation to place to place people, objects and events within a broad historical framework - the present(birthday party) and the remote past(hunter-gatherers).
