Recount Writing :
With an emphasis on descriptive language and with a reference to the Heaney poem " Digging", the boys wrote about vivid memories they have.
Living Roots Awaken in my Head.
A vivid memory from the past was when I went away to the countryside. I went to my holiday house in Cavan for about four days. My family and I arrived at our holiday house on a sunny day.During the drive we stopped at a shop and I bought a pencil case for my colours. When I opened it at my house a piece of the packaging fell into my mouth when I was stretching. I started to choke for about a minute  and tried to swallow it. Then, my mom and dad arrived. Suddenly, I coughed up the tag and spit it onto the ground. It was covered in blood. After, I had a glass of water.
Daniel Kelly

My earliest memory was when I was about two years old. It was my godfather Kieren and Fiona's wedding in Sligo. I was not allowed to go to the wedding. I stayed with my kind my kind nana and grandad. I was pretty sad that I wasn't going with my parents and older brother James. When my mom and dad had left my nana went into a small box room and came out in a few minutes with a big blue box filled with large blocks. I remember that I made a very tall tower and my nana started complimenting me saying how talented I was at building blocks.

Incredible Edibles Winner

Congratulations to our Third Classes for their magnificent Incredible Edibles Project and worthy winners of the Dublin Section .

Dublin Winner
St.
Brigid's Boys National School, Foxrock, Dublin 18

Combining forces, the two 3rd classes from St. Brigid's BNS teamed up to make an exceptional effort in documenting the planting, growth and harvest of their Incredible Edibles. An impressively sized scrapbook found its way to the Agri Aware office packed full of photos detailing every stage of their incredible journey. Interwoven with this lively photo display were the findings of class research on a variety of topics such as the history of the potato, food groups and the students even added to their growing repertoire by setting sunflowers and finding out some nifty facts about them too!
A truly inquisitive class, taste tests were conducted on fruits never before sampled by the pupils and they even took the project out of the classroom and into their local supermarket to find out what kind of vegetables people were buying and even tested customers general food knowledge!
Following a very successful harvest the students really celebrated the fruits of their labour as they all enjoyed a delicious school grown salad. The real treat in this project however were the individual copybook diaries kept by the students. Ornately decorated these diaries recorded the progress of the pupils plants from seed to supper time and included recipes, 5 a day trackers, diagrams, a fruit and veg map of Ireland and some even included comic book sketches involving the Incredible Edible characters. These hard working farmers definitely know how to reap a winning harvest!
