Matters Arising
  • The class representative system was discussed. Letters have gone out to explain the idea and what the role of class rep would be. It was agreed that even if the uptake is small it would be a good idea to go ahead...especially encouraging parents of the younger classes.
  • Other means of communication with the parents association discussed. Perhaps an e-mail account and texting?
  • The class contact list came up. This is a list initiated by the parents for the parents . It is purely voluntary to give out contact details. There will always be gaps in the class list but it is considered very handy for contact with the other parents in the class.
  • The footpath situation arose. What can be done to assist the parents who do help to clear the paths around the schools during heavy snow and ice ?
  • The Communion committee are to organise the gifts for the teachers.
Girls Board of Management
  • Meeting to be held
Boys Board of Management
  • There is a problem with the new floor. Repairs will be carried out.
  • Parent teacher meetings to be held at the end of January and early February.
  • The IT grant which was only allowed to be used for hardware improvements can now be also used for software.
  • The swimming uptake for the younger classes is low this year.
  • The non uniform day raised €6,900 for AIDS related charities.
  • There was a good response to the sale of the Christmas cards for the cancer charities.
  • Thanks to the parents for such a successful Christmas fair.
  • The boys did very well in the GAA finals in Croke Park. They came second which is a great achievement. The team supporters were mentioned in the Irish Times for their colourful hats and flags.
  • Mr Shaenen has been selected for the Dublin hurling senior team.
  • Ms Kane had a baby boy.
Educational Committee
  • The matter concerning a guest speaker was discussed. Suitable dates have to be confirmed. Cost of speakers also brought up as well as the amount of guest speakers to have in one year. The internet safety forum proving popular. It was suggested to change the heading for internet safety to include a broader spectrum making it more attractive to a wider audience. Another popular suggestion is the topic for preparation for transition to secondary schools. It was agreed to do a temp check to see how well the transition issue is received. Joanna will follow up on the other suggested speakers (John Lanagan and Vincent Maloney).
